BKT does not find USB-U-blox u7 stick
#1
I'm using BKT timesync on a W8.1 I have a separate Ublox-6 module
and now a GPS/Glonas USB Ublox-7 module. But the software cannot
find the GPS. Well, completely no sync. The ntp timeserver works perfect.
With the Ublox official software works perfect with both GPS'es.
Finding Ublox with 9600bd 8N2. By the way, I'using comport 8.

USB drivers might be incompatible with BktTimeSync

IZ2BKT:

I'm using a U-blox7 USB GPS receiver with Windows XP\SP3. Your BktTimeSync application finds the GPS receiver and receives updates but the application becomes non-responsive. Once it begins to receive updates I cannot close the application. I need to end the process tree in the Windows Task Manager in order to close the application. I tried to set to manual sync but once I click the sync now button the application becomes non-responsive. When the application is running its CPU usage is always 47-50%. I've included the diagnostics log below.

I'm wondering if you have any insight into why the application becomes non-responsive. As I said, it is working, however I'd like to be able to close the application without having to use the task manager to end the process tree.

Please let me know if you need additional information.

Hi,
If internet synchronization works then the problem is in serial communication with the gps. The log does not report any errors

I am a new user and just installed this program.

I see mention of connecting to USB GPS receiver but I see no USB port showing in the program, only serial ports from 1 to 20.  How do I connect with a Garmin GPS?

Also I have a Motorola Oncore receiver connected to Serial Port 1, 9600, 8,1,N.  This works fine with Lady Heather software but this program does not connect.

Hi Wes,
To operate the GPS receiver must have USB/SERIAL compatible drivers.

Uiz2bktHi,

I have been a Happy user of Bkt TimeSync on my Ham radio base set-up.  Recently I was building up a set up for doing QRP digital modes from Boy Scout campouts.  The GPS is a ublox 7 usb dongle, and it works fine with BKT Time sync on my Win 7 desktop machine, however I also have a similar problem when I try to use it with my Win 10 laptop.  Win 10 categorizes a GPS as a "Sensor"  I did add the helper app that sets up the ublox7 to also be recognized on Com 10.  The ublox software "Ucenter v 8.12" finds the GPS on Com10 and runs fine on the win 10 laptop, unfortunately the BKT Time sync SW doesn't find the GPS on Com10.  Any suggestions?

Hi Brian,
to convert the USB to serial is installed GPS manufacturer's drivers, unfortunately, not all manufacturers follow the standard guidelines and this causes compatibility issues. To try to solve the problem should I install the GPS and its drivers.
It is likely that in the next versions of BktTimeSync I can insert a new interface to the serial connection.

Hi Mauro,

I was wondering how soon will there likely be a next version of BktTimeSync, we have a fair number of Boy Scout camp outs scheduled, not to mention that Jamboree on the air (JOTA) is in a few weeks, having the ability to time sync the laptop via GPS to get digital mode going would be very handy.

Thanks & 73,
